What is Nutritional Therapy?
Nutritional Therapy is the application of evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle medicine sciences to promote optimal health and wellbeing. Using the principles of Functional Medicine, my aim is to get to the root cause of health issues, rather than just treating symptoms with medications that often only suppress them. It looks at how well our body systems are functioning.
The analogy I like to use is a smoke alarm. If the smoke alarm goes off, don’t remove the batteries – look for the fire, and put it out!
So, if you’re struggling with acid reflux, instead of recommending Gaviscon, a nutritional therapist will look at what’s causing your digestive issues in the first place for example, low stomach acid, Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) or food intolerance.
By identifying an individual’s biochemical and nutritional imbalances, we can address these, restoring the body back to health.
As a practitioner, I look at potential triggers and drivers of your symptoms, including:
nutrient deficiencies
hormonal imbalances
food sensitivities
pathogens
emotional stress
environmental toxins
lifestyle habits
