Setting New Year’s Intentions

As we step into 2025, it’s the perfect time to reflect on how we care for ourselves and set meaningful intentions for the months ahead.

Many of us feel the pressure to set big, bold resolutions—often aiming for drastic changes like working out every single day or overhauling our diets completely. While resolutions can be motivating at first, they can also lead to frustration when life inevitably gets in the way.

Resolutions are a firm decision to do or not to do something. They’re strict, with no wiggle room. You either stick to them or fail, which is why most of our resolutions are distant memories by February.

This year, let’s take a kinder, more intentional approach, by focusing on areas that truly nourish us. Intentions are guiding principles for how you want to be and they focus on the why behind your goals, allowing you to prioritise progress over perfection.

For example, instead of resolving to "never eat chocolate again," set the intention to "nourish your body with foods that support your digestion and overall health.” Consider adding in more colourful vegetables, incorporate gut-friendly foods like fermented options, or focus on mindful eating? Or could you drink more water, create a regular meal schedule, or start a wind-down routine for better sleep?

Instead of saying "I will go to the gym every day," try to find ways to incorporate daily movement into your life in ways that you enjoy.” This may be going to the gym, but it could equally be going for a walk in the park, yoga or dancing around the kitchen. Any movement is better than none, even if it’s only 5-10 minutes a day. This can then gradually be built on.

Maybe you would like to focus on showing yourself more kindness and on care this year. Which activities bring you joy and peace? Maybe it’s as simple as a weekly bath, reading a book, or spending time in nature.

Or are you juggling too much? Could you establish boundaries to make time for rest and relaxation, learning to say ‘’no’’ and setting boundaries with loved ones?

Or it could even be recognizing how you speak to yourself and trying to practice more positive self-talk.

Intentions are flexible, kind, and rooted in what truly matters to YOU. They create space for growth without the pressure of perfection, helping you make sustainable, long-term changes that feel good.
